The death of Robert Irvin Sutherland husband of the late Marilyn (Allison) Sutherland of Whitney, NB, occurred at the Miramichi Regional Hospital on Wednesday, February 18, 2015 at the age of 79. Born in Cassilis, NB, on July 10, 1934, he was the son of late Joseph and Iris (Howe) Sutherland.

He was a life time trucker and worked with Sutherland Excavating Ltd. alongside his son Blake, he was also a life member of the North & South Esk Lions Club.

Robert is survived by: one son: Blake (Stacey); two grandchildren: Mitchell and Matt Sutherland all of Millerton, NB: two brothers: James (Rolla) of Cassilis, NB and Davis (Grace) of Elliot Lake, ON.

Besides his parents, Robert is predeceased by: sisters: Martha Connors of Boom Road, NB; (John)(Mont), Leora, Clara and Mina all of Cassilis, NB; Brothers: Wilson (Meika) of St. Thomas, ON and Charlie (Thelma) of Florence, NB and extended family: Jean (Jimmy Clark), Willa (Wes Gillespie) and Edith (Charles Alger)
At the request of Robert there will be no visitation at the Funeral Home. A public Funeral Service will be held at Meadows Funeral Home on Monday @ 11 AM with Heather Ferrier officiating.

Burial will take place in St. Stephen’s United Church Cemetery later in the spring.

In Robert’s memory a donation may be made to the NB Diabetic Association.

Mr. Bernard William Savage, husband of Stella May (Harding) Savage of Miramichi Senior Citizens Home, formerly of Russellville, NB, passed away Wednesday morning February 18, 2015 at Miramichi Senior Citizens Home, at the age of 94. Born in Chatham, NB, he was the son of the late Sydney J. and Charlotte M. (Arsenault) Savage. He was retired from North Shore Construction as a Heavy Equipment Operator. He was a member of St. Peter & Paul Roman Catholic Church, the Holy Name Society, Knights of Columbus, Neguac Legion, Miramichi Snowmobile & ATV Club. He also was a Veteran of WW2 Overseas Forestry Reg.

Besides his wife Stella, he is survived by two daughters, Deborah Saunders (Jeff) of Calgary and Donna Russell (Brent) of Oromocto, three sons, James (Jackie) of Russellville, Howard (Murielle) of Neguac and Ralph (Beryl) of Keswick, two sisters, Rita Patterson and Frances Kenny, 19 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and 1 great, great grandchild. Besides his parents he was predeceased by one son Guy, one grandson Breven, four sisters, Rosie, Margaret, Catherine and Cecilia, two brothers, James and Frederick.

Mr. Bernard William Savage is resting at Davidson’s Funeral Home, 597 Old King George Hwy, with visitation on Friday 2-4 and 7-9 . Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 11 AM at St. Peter & Paul Roman Catholic Church, Bartibog with Father Brian Witmore officiating. Burial will be in the family lot of the church cemetery.

John William Eldon Conroy husband of Rose (Arbeau) Conroy of Digby Street, Blackville, passed away Wednesday February 18, 2015 at Miramichi Regional Hospital, at the age of 66. Born in Montreal, he was the son of Doris Theresa (Oakley) Conroy the late Eldon Joseph Conroy. He was a member of the Roman Catholic Church and also was a retired Army veteran serving in Cyprus (Black Watch) and was a Commissionaires.

Besides his wife Rose and his mother Doris, he is survived by one daughter, Michelle Conroy (David Curtis) of LaPlane, Louisiana; three sons, Jason Conroy of Barrie ON, Donnie Ward of Doaktown and David Ward of Barrie ON; one sister, Carol Perry of Tottenham ON; one grandchild, Ila Rose Curtis. Besides his father he was predeceased by one brother David Conroy.

At the request of the family there will be no visitation. The Funeral Service will be held Friday February 20, 2015 at 3 p.m. at Upper Blackville United Pentecostal Church, with Reverend Cole Price officiating.

Harry Gilbert (Gibb) Taylor, of Miramichi, passed away at his residence, on Friday, February 20, 2015, at the age of 74.

Born in Oshawa, ON, he was the son of the late Harold and Pearl (Mathe) Taylor. He worked as a teacher until his retirement and was a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

He will be sadly missed by his wife Darlene (Pakosh); daughter Rayna Taylor (Michael Vanner) of Toronto, ON; two sons Barak of Chilliwack, BC, and Kale (Cindy) of the Philippines; grandson Spencer Taylor; sisters-in-law Sally Leopold (Walter) of Commox, BC, and Elaine Nichols (Danny) of Scarborough, ON; brother-in-law Rodney (Penny) of Kelowna, BC; and several nieces and nephews.

At the family’s request, there will be no visitation. A memorial service will take place on Sunday, March 1, 2015, at 2 pm, from Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

As expression of sympathy, donations may be made to the Miramichi Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses, or to a memorial of one’s choice.

Miramichi – John Edward Clements, of Edmonton Crescent, Miramichi, passed away at the Miramichi Regional Hospital on Friday, February 20, 2015, at the age of 74, following a brief illness.

Born in Halifax, N.S., on November 24, 1940, he was the son of the late Gerald Clements and Nora H. Sabean. He was an Ironworker by profession and was a Christian by faith.

He is survived by his fiancee, Pauline Theriault, of Miramichi; one daughter, Tarra Barbaro (Luigi), of Barrie, Ont.; one son, Newman K. Parker (Annette), of Mount Uniacke, N.S.; four sisters, Pam McGowan (Brian), of Brantford, Ont, Donna Williams (David), of Hamilton, Ont., Gloria Phillips, of Hamilton, Ont., Judy Goulette, of Miramichi; three brothers, James MacGowan (Helen), of Tottenham, Ont., Richard Jackson (Debbie), of Calgary, AB, Gary Jackson (Bonnie), of Blackville, N.B.; twelve grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one sister, Goldie Staats; one brother, Danny Martin.

By request there will be no visiting. A public funeral service will be held from the King St. United Pentecostal Church, on Monday, February 23, 2015, at 2 pm, conducted by Rev. Peter Long. Interment will be in Bridgetown, N.S., later in the spring.

The death of Mr. Eugene Jeremiah Dunnett husband of 74 years of Verna (Mullin) Dunnett of Red Bank, NB, occurred on Saturday, February 21, 2015 at his residence at the age of 94. Born in Sillikers, NB, he was the son of the late John and Martha (Blackmore) Dunnett. Eugene was a member of the Little Southwest Baptist Church, Sillikers, a veteran of WWII and he retired after 25 years of work with Heath Steel Mines.

Besides his wife: Verna, Eugene is survived by: three daughters: Jenny Miller (Harry) of Hilltop, NB; Martha Dunnett of Red Bank, NB; Dora MacTavish (Rob) of Douglastown, NB; three sons: Joel (Brenda) of Red Bank, NB; Teddy (Hazel) of Hampton, NB; Keith (Susan) of Strathadam, NB; two daughter in laws: Marlene Dunnett and Sharon Dunnett both of Fredericton, NB; two sisters: Marina Dunnett and Abigail Holmes (Lee) all of Sillikers, NB; one brother: Edgar (Judy) of Bathurst, NB; one sister in law: Annie Mae Dunnett of Sillikers, NB; 16 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren.

Besides his parents, Eugene is predeceased by: three sons: Stanley, Robert and Jerry, one sister: Emma Gray; brothers: Issac, James, Jarvis, Elliot and George.

The Funeral Service will be held from the Little Southwest Baptist Church on Thursday, February 26, 2015 at 2 PM with Pastor Raymond Pitcher officiating. She is survived by daughter, Gaetane Thériault (Oswald Gaudet) of Point Aspin and two grandchildren , Jean-Denis and Joanie, one sister Clementine and four brothers, Eric Maxime, Cyrille and Yvon, as well as several sister-in-law’s and one brother-in-law.

She is predeceased by her husband, Arthur Thériault, her son Pierre, sisters Elodie and Zelia, brother Prospére and Aurele.

Ella Mae (Taylor) Dutcher wife of the late Kenneth Dutcher passed away Friday February 20, 2015 at White Rapids Manor, Fredericton Junction, at the age of 91. Born in Price Settlement, NB, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Harriett (Price) Taylor. She was self employed in the Catering Business and a member of the United Church. She also was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 4 Ladies Auxiliary for 50 years.

She is survived by one daughter, Shirley Cook of Fredericton, one son, David Dutcher (Eszter Brewer) of Fredericton, two sisters, Reta Godfrey of Miramichi and Marjorie Hamilton of Moncton, 4 grandchildren, Erion (Jeff), Brent (Carolyn), Ian and Kaitlin and 9 great grandchildren. Besides her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by two sisters, Annie Cullum and Wilda Morrison, four brothers, Frank, Walter, Ernest and Mark Taylor, one son-in-law, Russell Cook.

At the request of Ella there will be no visitation or funeral service. A Graveside Service will be held in Stymiest Cemetery at a later date.

Born in Auburnville, on December 15, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Watham and Margaret (Williston) McLenaghan. She was a homemaker and worked in the hospitality industry in Ontario; a member of St. Stephen’s United Church, Black River Bridge; a former member of the U.C.W.

She is survived by two daughters, Mary Bonney, of London, Ont. and Betty Jones (Lloyd), of Little Branch Road; one daughter in law, Rose Mary Fowlie, of Little Branch Road; seven grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; six great great grandchildren; two sisters in law, Sadie McLenaghan and Minnie Fowlie; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, James; one son, Albert Fowlie; two sisters, Janie McLenaghan and Marjorie Gibson; six brothers, Arthur, James, Lawrence, Gordon, Leigh, Watham McLenaghan.

Wayne retired from Lounsbury where he worked in the service bay department.

Wayne is survived by one son: Tyler of Moncton, NB; one sister: Lynda Gleeson; one niece: Tina Davis and one great nephew: Patrick Davis all of Connecticut, USA.

Wayne is predeceased by his stepfather: Joe Kaskey

At the request of the family there will be no visitation or Funeral Service.

Burial will take place in the Boom Road Presbyterian Cemetery at a later date.

119788Bathurst – Lorne Whalen, 91, formerly of Meadow Ave., Bathurst, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at the Foyer Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes on Wednesday February 25, 2015.
Born in Newcastle, he was the son of the late Lawrence and Mary (Young) Whalen.
Lorne was a veteran of World War II and a lifetime member of the Royal Canadian Legion Herman J Good VC Branch #18 for which he was presented the Award of Merit. He served 15 years as Captain of the Bathurst Militia and was further honored for his military career by serving a term as Honorary Colonel of the 2RNBR Regiment.
The awards Lorne received over the years is a testament to the contributions he made to his profession and his community. Among these awards are the following:
– Larkin Trophy, St F X U 1949 Awarded to the student who best combined the qualities of athletic ability, sportsmanship, character and scholarship
-St F X U Sports Hall of Fame 1977
-Bathurst Sports Hall of Fame 1991
-NB Sports Hall of Fame 1994
-Miramichi Sports Hall of Fame 2013
-NB Interscholastic Athletic Association Award of Distinction for his dedication and contributions to sport in NB 1984
-Basketball of NB Award of Merit 1988
-NBTA Centennial Award 1988
-Rotary Club of Bathurst Paul Harris Fellowship Award 2007.
Lorne did not limit his teaching to the classroom. In the Bathurst community he also coached soccer, basketball, volleyball and track and field. He organized the Red Cross Swimming program, began the mini-basketball program, organized the 1986 Summer Games for the Disabled and was a member of the 2003 Canada Winter Games Committee.
He has recently been honored by his community and peers by the announcement that the BathurstHigh School Gymnasium will bear his name.
Lorne is survived by his eight children: Leigh (Debbie) of Halifax, N.S., Keith (Lorraine), Lorna Hebert (Paul), Carla Thibodeau (Doran), Craig (Louise), Holly, Lance (Barb), all of Bathurst and Trent (Yuko) of Nagoya, Japan; thirteen grandchildren: Jayme (Devin), Jennifer (Dan), Jasmin (Jason), Zachary, Sebastian, Tristan (Brittany), Tierney, Gillian (Cody), Hillary, Jason (Shannon), Krista, Joshua and Hana; five great-grandchildren: Henry, Luke, Nathalie, Wren and Brody; one sister, Rita Kerr (Bill) of Miramich; a special niece, Judy Breau (Jim) of Moncton; one sister-in-law, Averil Whalen and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Paryse (Verret) Whalen; two brothers: Leonard, Tom; one sister, Marie and a grandson Joshua.
The body will rest on Friday, February 27, 2015 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Elhatton’s Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com), Bathurst. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, February 28, 2015, at 11 a.m. from HolyFamilyChurch, St. Peter Ave., Bathurst.

Agnes was a homemaker, retired hairdresser and a CWL member of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church.

Agnes is survived by four daughters: Ann Marie Poissonnier (Steven) of Moncton, NB, Mary Daley of Miramichi, NB, Susan Elloitt (Ron) of Calgary, AB and Kimberly Blackmore of BC; three sons: Joseph (Joyce), William (Nicole) and Patrick all of Miramichi, NB; one sister: Anne Oickle (Arlie) of Nova Scotia; fourteen grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Edmond Gerard Johnston of West Hovey Lane, Storeytown NB passed away Thursday February 26, 2015 at Miramichi Regional Hospital, at the age of 87. Born in Antigonish NS, he was the son of the late William and Minnie (DeLorey) Johnston. He was retired from the Royal Canadian Army. He also was a member of Our Lady of Annunciation Roman Catholic Church, member of Doaktown Curling Club, member of Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 23 Doaktown, member of Royal Canadian Dragons for 26 years, member of RCD Association and a member of Korean Vets Association.

He was predeceased by his parents, one brother Adrian and an infant sister.

The death of Mary “Edna” Haining widow of Fred Haining of Miramichi, NB, occurred at the Miramichi Regional Hospital on Friday, February 27, 2015 at the age of 83. Born in Miscouche, PE, Edna was the daughter of the late Anthony and Eliza (Gallant) Gaudet.
Edna was a homemaker, she enjoyed her weekly card games for over 40 years. Edna was a retired waitress from the former French Fort Cove Restaurant and Newcastle Central Snack Bar. She was a past member of the Newcastle Bowling League and Campers Association.
