Betty Wood was a remarkable individual. She was the core of her family and a trusted advisor to all around her. Family, church and community were the foundation of Betty’s life. She provided humor and heart to many organizations across the Miramichi. She was a dedicated chairperson for St. Michael’s Parish suppers and Irish Festival breakfasts for many years. Betty was a competitor—she loved playing a good game of bridge, leading the bowling Shamrocks to victory as their captain, finding the best bargains cross border shopping, and sharpening her mind doing cryptograms and crossword puzzles. She also enjoyed the more everyday activities of movies and television, but above all was an enthusiastic reader and true lover of books. Betty was always the person to go to for a good book recommendation. After a lengthy illness, Betty (Walsh) Wood of Miramichi, New Brunswick passed away peacefully on July 19, 2015 surrounded by her family. She was 72 years old. Betty was the daughter of the late Frank and Mary (Reinsborough) Walsh. Betty is survived by her devoted husband David (Chuck) of 50 years this August and her two children Susan Campbell (Randy) and Janice Vogel (Kurt), her sister Patsy Kingston (Weldon) and ever faithful furry friend, Kali. Nana was loved immensely and will be greatly missed by her three grandchildren Meghan Campbell, Aiden and Reid Vogel.Betty was born in the Hotel Dieu Hospital in Chatham and was a lifelong resident of Miramichi. Betty graduated from St. Thomas University in 1964 with a Bachelor of Arts in English. She taught for many years in the former District #10 school system and as an adult educator in NBCC Miramichi. Betty was also instrumental helping out with administration support at Saint Michael’s Parish office.Other community services in which Betty was involved include Chatham Public Library Board member, Saint Michael’s Parish Council, and a 25 year member of the Catholic Woman’s League.Betty Wood will be resting at Maher’s Funeral Home Miramichi on Wednesday July 22, 2015 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday July 23, 2015 at 11 a.m. at Saint Michael’s Basilica.
