Marion Mason, a long-time resident of Miramichi, passed away May 24, 2015 at the Miramichi Senior Citizens’ Home with family at her bedside. She was born in 1918 to May Victoria (Davies) and William Mitchell in Halifax. In spite of many hardships, Marion graduated from high school and worked several years as a stenographer for the Department of Fisheries in Halifax, before marrying Carmen Mason and eventually settling in Nelson, Miramichi. Besides raising her family, she kept the books for Carmen’s electrical business into her sixties.

Marion’s talents, interests and qualities were many. She was artistic and musical. She could pick out any tune on the accordion and her singing was always pitch perfect. Marion was an excellent and experimental cook. She loved to travel, especially when it involved visiting family. Her various travels took her to the Caribbean, the United States and across Canada. Marion was a kind and gentle person with a particular soft spot for all animals – big and small.

She was a dedicated mother and grandmother and leaves a legacy of compassion and love to her family. She will be greatly missed by her devoted daughters, Elizabeth (Bob Bowes) of Derby and Kathleen (Dave Goforth) of Miramichi; her beloved grandchildren, Kurt Bowes, Heather Bowes-Ford and Jessica Goforth-Lajoie all of Calgary, and her delightful great-grandchildren, Kate, Lauren, Charlie and Mason. Marion is survived by her sister, Doris Boutilier of Kitchener-Waterloo, and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside memorial service will be held at St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Brown’s Yard, Kent County, New Brunswick on Friday, June 12, 2015 @ 1 PM with The Rev. Christopher Ketch officiating. It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Rita Mary (Goulette) Goguen. Rita was born on April 11, 1941 and was the youngest daughter of Wilfred and Mary Goulette. She was a lifelong resident of Miramichi and spent her formative years in Chatham. Mom attended St. Michael’s School and had great stories and memories of growing up in Chatham. She often told us about the adventures she enjoyed as a young girl and teen swimming at the wharf and skating there in the winter time.

She began her married life at the young age of 18 and entered motherhood that same year. She was blessed with six children and never hesitated to tell us what beautiful babies we were. She was a talented cook, craftsperson and had a way to put everyone she encountered at ease.

She worked for many years as a Nurse’s Aide at the Miramichi Senior Citizens’ Home. She was a compassionate caregiver to all of her patients and truly loved her work. She seized the opportunity to further her education and successfully accomplished her Registered Nurse’s Assistant certification in 1996.

She had a special love for all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She relished hearing the stories of their accomplishments and spending time with them.

Throughout her life, Mom developed and maintained many close friendships. She was loved and thought of fondly by all who knew her.

Once she retired. Mom was able to spend more time with her family and friends and was grateful for even the simplest times spent whether it was playing a game of cards or scrabble.

Rita is survived by her daughters, Patricia McCarthy of Grande-Digue, New Brunswick, Margaret (Gleason) Gallinger of Boyle, Alberta, Susan (Robert) Fortier of Sutton, Ontario, Jennifer (Mark) Kingston of Miramichi, New Brunswick and her son, Paul (Diane) McCarthy of Miramichi, New Brunswick. She is also survived by her sister Marie Hebert of Moncton, New Brunswick, 16 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Rita was predeceased by her parents, Wilfred and Mary (Muzzerole) Goulette, one son, Michael, and one grandson, Benjamin.

Visitation will take place on Monday, June 22, 2015 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at Maher’s Funeral Home, 35 University Avenue, Miramichi. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Michael’s Basilica on Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at 11 AM officiated by Father John Frasier.

As expressions of sympathy donations to the memorial of one’s choice would be appreciated.
