The death of Irene Helen Rolph wife of the late George Rolph of Trout Brook, NB, occurred on Saturday, March 14, 2015 at the Miramichi Regional Hospital at the age of 79. Born in Wayerton, NB, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Ada (Hare) Waye. Irene was a member of the Wesley United Church and Choir, Trout Brook and the Islandview Senior Citizens. She worked as a Waitress/Cook over the years.

Irene is survived by: one daughter: Donna Belanger (Claude) of Miramichi, NB; two sons: Darrell Waye of Wayerton, NB and Richard (Ricky) Rolph of Trout Brook, NB; five sisters: Nellie Williston (Carmen) of Chatham, NB; Wanda Waye of Bay Du Vin, NB; Joan Goode (Fred) of Ottawa, ON; Marilyn O’Brien of Miramichi, NB; Clora Cortes (Frank) of Alberta; one brother: Robert “Bobby” Waye (Judy) of Strathadam, NB; eight grandchildren: Tammy, Tina, Crystal, Amanda, Katie, Robert, Tracy and Lisa; great grandchildren: Mackenzie, Aiden, Jeffery, Erica, Tamara, Terssa, Ryan and Evan.
Besides her parents and husband, Irene is predeceased by: one daughter: Shirley Waye; grandson: Raymond Waye; sisters: Audrey Waye and Beulah Druet; brothers: Jim, Carl, Mervin, Earl, Ernie and Perley.
The family will receive visitors at Bell’s Funeral Home on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The Funeral Service will be held from The Sterling Bell Memorial Chapel on Tuesday at 2 pm with Heather Ferrier officiating. Burial will take place in the Wesley United Church Cemetery later in the spring.
In Irene’s memory, donations may be made to the Family Living Memorial.

The Passing of Clara Larry occurred at Mount Saint Josephs Nursing Home on Friday March 13 at the age of 97 with her loving Family by her side.
Born September 23,1917 she was the Daughter of the late Lemuel and Agnes (Mitchell) Bernard.
Clara is survived by 6 daughters,Rena Larry,Margaret Larry,Linda Sock,Mary Bernard,Ann Jepson,and Sandra Williston,all of Eel Ground,2 Sons Henry and Vincent both of Eel Ground.
She was predeceased by a Daughter Dorothy,5 Sons,Joseph,Richard,Lemey,Raymond,and Frank,and 1 sister Margaret Mary.
The family will receive relatives and friends at the Funeral Home on Monday from 2 -4 and 7-9.
Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday from St. Joachims Roman Catholic Church,Eel Ground with Father Tom Fowler officiating.
Burial will be in the Church cemetery at a later date.

Mary “Joan” (McDonald) Hachey wife of Ernest Hachey of Sutton Road, Miramichi, passed away Sunday, March 15, 2015 at Miramichi Regional Hospital, at the age of 71. Born in Nelson NB, she was the daughter of the late Wilbourn and Mary (Goodin) McDonald. She was a homemaker and a member of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church, Chatham Head. She also was a member of the Nelson Community Center.

Besides her husband Ernest, she is survived by two daughters; Cathy Goguen (Gary) of Miramichi and Lynn Almond (Late Brian) of Brantford, three sons; Robert Hachey (Kelly) of Napan, Paul Hachey (Tammy) of Millerton and John Hachey (Viola) of Fort McMurray, four sisters; Betty Ann Cain, Ann McCallum, Linda Comfort (Paul) and Carmel Lee (Doug), two brothers; Wilbourn (Buddy) McDonald (Cindy) of Miramichi and John (Jackie) McDonald (Maria) of Moncton, 12 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; extended family members; Judy Goguen, Wilma Geldart, Nancy Lavoie and Frank Hanley. Besides her parents she was predeceased by one daughter Barbara.

Mrs. Mary “Joan” Hachey is resting at Davidson’s Funeral Home, 597 Old King George Hwy, with visitation on Tuesday from 2-4 & 7-9. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday March 18, 2015 11 a.m. at the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church, Chatham Head, with father Paul LeBlanc officiating. Burial will be in Malcolm Cemetery later in the spring.

Freda Marion LaPlante, 73, wife of the late Robert Joseph LaPlante passed away Saturday March 14, 2015, surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on April 29, 1941 in New Castle N.B. she was the daughter of the late Honorine Dalton and Frederic Robinson.

Freda is survived by 4 children Naomi Sutton (William), Gail Baker (Peter), Teri Anderson (Marcus) all of Miramichi and son Robert Joseph LaPlante Jr. of Calgary Alberta. Grandchildren Michael and Timothy Sutton, Darcie, Niklas and Samantha Baker, and Marcus and Erik Anderson. Great grandchildren Aurora Sutton, Carlie, Kaimen and Marshall O’Neil, and Robert Anderson. One sister Susie Keane of Halifax N.S. and 3 brothers Jimmy, Bernie and Michael Keane of Miramichi. Besides her mother, father and husband Freda is predeased by her step father Vince Keane of Nordin.

Freda lived her dream of travelling around North America, with her soul mate, upon their retirement. Freda was a chef by trade and enjoyed doing crafts and cooking for friends and companions that she met during her travels through Canada, the USA and Mexico. After returning to Miramichi she continued to practice her love of cooking at the Miramichi Agriculture Exhibition Association where she was employed as a banquet chef until the time of her death.

As per her final wishes there will be no funeral service. Her ashes will be placed with her husbands during a ceremony at a later date in the spring.

The family would like to thank the Oncology and Palliative care units of the Moncton and Miramichi Hospitals for their care, kindness and support to our mother and ourselves during this time. Thanks to all our friends who visited mom during her final days your support is appreciated. Words cannot express our gratitude to Heather Jagoe who spent countless hours sitting with our Mother in her final days. Your kindness will never be forgotten. The death of Rocky John William Goodfellow of Toronto, ON and formerly of Newcastle, NB, occurred at his residence on Monday, March 2, 2015 at the age of 40. Rocky was born in Newcastle on March 1, 1975.

Rocky was a journalist with CTV & Sun TV in Toronto, & CBC in Ottawa. Rocky was a graduate of MVHS 1993, Belleville College 1995 and Ryerson University Toronto 1999.

Rocky is survived by his mother Frances “Frankie” Goodfellow of Chatham, NB (Paddy McMahon) and his father Donnie Goodfellow (Sherry) of South Esk, NB.

Rocky is predeceased by his maternal grandparents and Aunt Althea.

In Rocky’s memory a donation may be made to the NB Diabetic Association.

The death of Ruby Elizabeth (Betty) (Creamer) Mullin wife of Harry Mullin of South Nelson, NB, occurred at her residence on Wednesday, March 18, 2015 at the age of 80. Born in Chatham, NB, Betty was the daughter of the late Hubert & Cecile (McLean ) Creamer.
Betty was a homemaker, correspondent secretary and member of the Newcastle Seniors Friendship Club, volunteered with the Friends of the Ritchie Wharf and President of Local COPD Chapter.

Betty is survived by twin daughters: Dolores Hare (Fred) of St. George, NB, Deborah MacDonald (Kevan) of Red Deer AB; one son: Douglas (Carolyn) of Miramichi, NB; five sisters: Eleanor Kingston (Aloysuis) of Ci Road, NB, Audrey Duthie (Pat) of South Nelson, NB, Davida Craig (Joe) of Nelson Miramichi, NB, Marjorie Carroll of Douglastown, NB, Carmel Doyle of CI Road, NB ; one brother: Ken (Kay) of Prescott, ON.; five grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

Betty is predeceased by one great grandchild: Jade Joseph (J.J.); one sister: Shirley and two brothers: Emmanuel and David.
Family will receive visitors at Bell’s Funeral Home on Friday from 2-4 PM & 7-9 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church on Saturday, March 21, 2015 at 11 AM with Father Jim McQuade officiating.

Burial will take place in the Lower Derby Baptist Cemetery later in the spring.

Carman retired from UPM Groundwood Mill in Nelson, NB.

Wayne is survived by his wife Eldora Manuel, his children: Donald Manuel of Moncton, Moneca Lloyd (Terry) of Baie Sainte-Anne, Nancy Manuel of BC, and Daniel Manuel of Halifax, NS, grandchildren Troy & Brook, and also survived by his brothers and sisters: Ferdinand McIntyre (Imelda) of Chatham Head, Alfred McIntyre (Alida) , Kenneth McIntyre (Lorraine), Wilmont McIntyre (Antoinette), Shawn McIntyre (Shelly), Sandra Lodwik (Albert), and Joanne Turbide (Bertrand) all of Baie Sainte-Anne.

Miramichi – Shirley Elizabeth Smith, wife of Retired Col. William H, Smith, of Water Street, Miramichi, passed away at her residence on Wednesday, March 18, 2015, at the age of 94.

Born in Windsor, Ont., on May 5, 1920, she was the daughter of the late John A. and Caroline L. (Cross) Portt. She was a homemaker; prior to retirement was employed with Acadia Pulp and Paper Inc. in the position of executive secretary to the mill manager. She was a former member of the I.O.D.E.; a long time member of the Miramichi Golf & Country Club. She was a member of St. Pauls Anglican Church, Miramichi.

She is survived by her husband, William Horace Smith; two sons, William A. Smith (Wilhelmina)(Willie), of Campbellton and Brian C. Smith (Barbara), of Ottawa, Ont.; three grandchildren, Chris, Colin & Melissa; five great grandchildren Stephen, Laurie, Julia, Ryder, Lyra; one brother, Charles A. Portt (Irene), of Phoenix, Az., USA. She was predeceased by one sister, Rena E. Hartlieb; two brothers, Clifford and Stanley Portt.

By request there will be no visitation at the funeral home. A private family graveside service will be held at a later time in the spring. Interment will be in St. Pauls Anglican Cemetery, Miramichi.

Born September 1st, 1917 in New Jersey, NB, she was the daughter of the late Captain Robert and Elizabeth (Muir) Cassidy. She was a homemaker, a member of the BCNJ Seniors Group, UCW and the Historical Society of Church River. She lived all her life in New Jersey, Burnt Church and for a short period in Montreal. She was the last surviving member of her family.

She is survived by her daughters, Carolyn Todd (David) of Edmonton, AB and Cheryl Savoy (Rob) of Wales United Kingdom; her sons, Robert (Georgina) of New Jersey, Graham (Marina) of Head of St. Margarets Bay, Evan (Sarah) of Burnt Church and Charles of Burnt Church; her 18 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren and her nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband and her parents, she was predeceased by her daughter Valerie Savoy; her brother, Harry Cassidy (Alice); sisters, Elvira Price (Richard) and Roberta Colbachef (John) and great granddaughter Natahia Perlau.

Mr. David Clair Geikie, husband of Marilyn (Daley) Geikie, formally of Miramichi, passed away in Halifax on Saturday, March 21, 2015 at the age of 69.

Born in Newcastle, he was the son of the late Harold and Mary Geikie. He retired from UPM as Maintenance Manager. In his earlier years he worked in Nackawic, McKenzie and Kamloops, BC. He was avid reader, enjoyed golf, fishing with his family and he had great love for his family.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn; his daughters, Rosalyn Allen (Craig) of Halifax, NS and Tara Harrison (Billy) of Parrsboro, NS; his son, Brent (Catherine) of Halifax, NS; his sisters, Janet Hennigar of Fredericton, NB and Helen Marie LeGresley (Robert) of Lanigan, SK; his brothers, Harold of Mount Saint Joseph’s, Paul (Sheila) of Agassiz, BC, Tom (Kim) of Winsor, ON, Peter (Lyn) of Ottawa, ON and Randy (Sandra) of Fredericton, NB; 3 grandchildren, Sadie Allen, Macie Allen and Ramona Geikie; 2 step grandchildren, Scott Fraser and Chesley Harrison.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by an infant brother, John.

Jimmy is survived by three daughters: Carla Sutherland (Ralph Mullin) of Sunny Corner, NB, Shelley of Sunny Corner, NB, Julie of Miramichi, NB; one son: Michael (Chrystal) of Grand Prairie, AB ; four sisters: Marjorie Delano of Newcastle, NB, Kathleen Quayle of Williamstown, NB, Annie Mae McGregor of Cassilis, NB, Carolyn Matthews (John) of Lyttleton, NB; three brothers: Stafford of Curventon, NB, Earl (Carolyn) and Murdock Jr. (Peggy) all of Exmoor, NB and Stanley (Patsy) of Sunny Corner, NB; four grandchildren: Marshall & Majesta Mullin, Logan Sutheralnd and Michaela Sutherland; one great granddaughter: Marlee Mullin and many nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by one sister: Margaret and one brother: Perley.

Visitation will be held at Meadows Funeral Home on Thursday from 2-4 PM & 7- PM. The Funeral Service will be held at the Little Southwest Baptist Church on Friday, March 27, 2015 @ 2 PM with Pastor Raymond Pitcher officiating.

Burial will take place in the Lyttleton Baptist Cemetery, Back Road, NB later in the spring.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Lanny Kildaire Myles on March 24, 2015 at the Miramichi Regional Hospital. Lanny was born on March 29, 1939 in Campbellton, NB, the son of Trueman and Ila (Dobson) Myles.

Lanny retired in 1997 as a CNR Police Inspector after a 10 year career in the Air Force and 26 years with the Canadian National Railways Police Force. During his time in the Air Force he was stationed in Borden ON; Monction, NB; Metz, France; and Chatham, NB. He spent 18 years with the Saint John, NB CNR Police Force before being transferred to Halifax, NS where he was promoted to Inspector. While working in Saint John he also simultaneously held the position of Treasurer and then President of the Canadian CNR Police Association, where he often argued Labour Relations cases. This a position at which he excelled and greatly enjoyed.

Lanny is survived by his wife of 52 years, Eileen (Keays) Myles; daughter Nancy (Steven) Godkin of Stratford, PEI; son Richard (Laura) Myles of Miramichi, NB; sisters Sharon (Reg) McGrath of Miramichi, NB; and Starlene (Paul) Stewart of Ottawa, ON, Sisters-in-laws Denise Myles of Ottawa, ON and Patricia Cunningham of Pointe-a-la-Garde, QE; and his “Upper Canadian” cousin Harry (Sharon) Lines. Several nieces and nephews, one of which is his special “backroad” adventure buddy, Peter McGrath. He also leaves behind his beloved furry companion Duke, by whom he will greatly missed, and his very special neighbours, Ed and Phyl Young.

Besides his parents, he was pre-deceased by his sister Carolyn Myles and brothers Bernard (September, 2013) and George “Bub” Myles (April, 2014).

The family will receive relatives and friends from Northumberland Funeral Homd, on Friday, March 27, 2015, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. The funeral service will be held from Northumberland Funeral Home Chapel, on Saturday, March 28, 2015, with Father Michael O’Hara officiating, at a time to be announced.

The family would like to extend a very special thank you to his Extramural Palliative Care nurses, especially his primary care nurse Tara; the staff at the Palliative Care Unit, especially his nurse Stephen; and Doctor Carl Hudson, for their excellent care. Donations may be made in Lanny’s name to the Palliative Care Unit of the Miramichi Regional Hospital or the Miramichi Extramural.

Anne Bernard, 92, of Miramichi, NB, passed away on Tuesday 24, 2015 at the Mount Saint Joseph Nursing Home.
Born in Glasgow Scotland the daughter of the late Anthony & Annie (Moran) Boyle.

Robert “Bob” Saulnier passed away in his home on March 24th, 2015 surrounded by his loving family. Robert was born in Miramichi, NB on July 22, 1933 to the late Joseph and Elsie Saulnier.

Bob served his country for 25 years in the Canadian Armed Forces, retiring as a Sergeant. After retirement, Bob spent his time fishing and hunting, and often preparing the days catch for his family, whom he loved more than life.

He is survived by his wife, Jessie; sons, Larry (Cathy), Robert (Patti) and Tim (Cheryl); daughters, Beth, Alana (Rick), Sharon and Shannon; stepson, Bobby and step-daughters, Tina, Judy (John) and Arlene. Bob is also survived by his brothers, Joseph, John, Paul, Richard and Allen; sisters, Mary, Joan, Romaine and Gloria; grandchildren, Mark, Melanie and Alec; step-grandchildren, Matthew, Alicia, Amanda and Victoria and several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

The Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #93, will have a tribute service, honoring Robert and his years of service, on Friday, March 27th, 2015 at the Oromocto Royal Canadian Legion on 284 Restigouche Road, Oromocto, NB, starting at 1:00 pm. A visitation will be held on Sunday, March 29th, 2015 from 2-4 and 7-9 at Bells Funeral Home, 651 King George Highway, Miramichi, NB. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, March 30th, 2015 at 11:00 AM at The Sterling Bell Memorial Chapel with Fr. Dan Melanson officiating. The death of Velma Catherine Ann Silliker-Martin, wife of Eldon (Al) Martin occurred on March 24, 2015, after a 2 year battle with Alzheimer’s. She was 78, born in Barnettville, NB on May 25,1936, only daughter of the late Basil & Melvina (Jardine) Underhill.

She is survived by her 4 children, Cathy (Tommy) McKinney, Sue Silliker, Randy (Janette) Silliker, Karen (Randy) Sanford all of Saint John, NB.

She is also survived by her 5 grandchildren, Derek (YoungGin), Kristen (Nick), Leah (Mark), Jeff (Allyson) and Meghan as well as 3 great grandchildren Logan, Lily and Sophia.

She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins as well as her step sister Dorval Giberson of Miramichi, NB.
She was predeceased by her first husband Donald Silliker, her son Jeffrey Silliker and her 2 brothers, Omer Underhill, Derby Junction, NB and John Merton Underhill, Enfield, NS.

She is also survived by her husband’s children, Wade (Brenda) Martin, North Oxford, Mass, Brenda (Richard) Belmonte, Grafton, NH, Angela Watson, Medford, Mass and Deborah (David) Morgan New Port Richey, Fl.

Velma graduated from Harkins Vocational School in Miramichi, NB. She was employed at Saint John Shipbuilding in the First aid room.

Velma was a member of the All Saint’s Anglican Church in Saint John where she also loved to sing in the choir. Mom dedicated most of her life to service in the community. She was a member of the Branch 53 Legion Ladies Auxiliary, a member of the Lioness Club, and worked with the Red Cross as a volunteer. She also volunteered with the Hospital
She loved her big family and love to cooked whatever meal they requested. She also loved to bake and always had some goodies for the grandkids. Bingo was also something she enjoyed and if she wasn’t playing, she was volunteering at one. She played a pretty good game of crib as well occasionally beating her husband Al.

Mom was a Snowbird and loved to travel to Florida to get away from the NB winters. Mom was a big knitter and was always making socks. Mom loved to travel with her Red Hat’s Society Ladies on bus trips to many places. She loved to bowl and bowled in a few leagues. She loved helping people in any way that she could. She had a love of life that she led with a calm and quiet grace. We will miss the matriarch of our big family.

A special thanks for all the staff and volunteers at Loch Lomond Village Cedar House for taking good care of our mother and a special thanks to our step dad, Al for taking such good care of our mother. We all love you very much.
Visitation will be held at Brenan’s Funeral Home, Saint John on Friday and Saturday from 2-4 & 6-8. and at Bell’s Funeral Home on Sunday from 2-4 & 6-8. The death of Timothy Patrick Joseph McCarthy of Miramichi occurred at the Miramichi Regional Hospital Tuesday March 24.

He was in his 86th year.

Born in Clonakilty Ireland, he was the son of Patrick and Margaret McCarthy. He emigrated to Canada in 1955, living first in British Columbia, where he met his wife Joan Kingston, a native of the Miramichi, who was teaching in Williams Lake, B.C.

Originally a plumber, he worked at that trade in B.C., and after moving to the Miramichi in 1959, was employed as a pipefitter, and then an electrician, at Heath Steele Mines. Beginning in 1967, he worked as an electrician at the Fraser paper mill (later RePap) in Newcastle and was employed there until his retirement in 1995.

Tim became active in the labour movement after his arrival on the Miramichi, eventually becoming president of the New Brunswick Federation of Labour and vice-president of the Canadian Labour Congress and was the only member of the CLC executive working at his journeyman trade.

He was also a three-term councillor for the town of Newcastle, a long-time executive member of Father Dixon Council Knights of Columbus and a volunteer for the Kidney Foundation and Alzheimer Society of Canada.

He is survived by his son Brendan of St. John’s, N.L. his three daughters, Siobhan Humphrey of Edmonton, Moira McCarthy of Guelph Ont., and Suzanne McCarthy of Ottawa, daughter-in-law Audrey and sons-in-law John Humphrey, Moe Vidotto and Simon Kennedy; his sister Kitty O’Mahoney of Clonakilty, Ireland; nine grandchildren, Andrew, Richard, Rebecca, Fiona, Clara, Katherine, Jack, Timothy and Leo; great grandchildren Alexander and Ryan; a large number of nieces and nephews, including Gerard O’Mahoney of Galway Ireland; and a wide circle of family and friends.

Tim was predeceased by his wife Joan.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Northumberland Funeral Home on Thursday evening from 6-9.

Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday at 11 am from St. Samuel’s Roman Catholic Church in Douglastown, with Father Maurice Swift officiating.

Burial will be in St. James Roman Catholic Church, Sevogle at a later date.

Alberta Deanne Trevors, widow of the late Herbert H. Trevors, of the Mount St. Joseph Nursing Home and formerly of Douglasfield, passed away at her residence on Saturday, March 28, 2015, at the age of 83.

Born in Chatham, on August 1, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Campbell and Blanche (England) Worrell. She was a homemaker and a retired school teacher; a member of St. Marys Anglican Church, Miramichi; a member of the A.C.W., the Alpha program and the Bible study group in her church.

She is survived by two daughters, Heather Flanagan (Gary), of Fredericton and Phyllis Carter (Richard), of Miramichi; three sons, Shawn Trevors (Cindy), of Miramichi, Rev. Robin Trevors, of Newfoundland, Eric Trevors (Sandra), of Miramichi; two sisters, Phyllis Dixon (Jim), of Saint John and Annabelle Wilson, of U.S.A.; one brother, Robert Worrell (Leila), of Miramichi; one sister in law, Molly Worrell; fifteen grandchildren and ten great grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Herbert, on Dec. 31, 2014; one daughter, Cinda Trevors; one son, Peter Trevors; one brother, Bun Worrell.

Visiting will be at Adams Funeral Home Ltd., 140 King St., on Tuesday, from 2-4 & 7-9 pm. Funeral service will be held from St. Marys Anglican Church on Wednesday, April 1, 2015, at 2 pm, conducted by Rev. Gordon Thompson. Interment will be in St. Pauls Anglican Cemetery, later in the spring.
