Rene Wedge made a peaceful transition into God’s open arms surrounded by devoted family members at the Georges Dumont Hospital on the morning of December 2, 2014. Many who are left to celebrate and cherish his legacy of love, humor, indomitable spirit, quest for knowledge and adventure, positive attitude and optimistic outlook include: his beloved wife of 71 and a half years, Anita (Cormier), his devoted children, Elmina, Simonne (Bob Little), Clifford, Viola (Brian Moores), Claude (Carol Bernard), Rick (Kristin Grzegorek) and, beheld as a daughter, Margaret Ann (Legresley) Chamberlain. Lovingly survived by his brother, George (Sue) and his sister, Therese, he was predeceased by infant children Cleophas and Mary and brothers Raymond, Gerry, and Emile. His memory lives on in his grandchildren: Carl (Enkelejda) Little, Melanie Little Khan, Denise Wedge, David Wedge, Emily Prout, Carter Wedge, Ashley Moores, Daron Moores and Elly Wedge, as well as in his four great-grand children: Ben and Monique Khan and Aidan and Avery Prout.

Others who benefited from his love of life were adored in-laws and long-time and new-found friends. Many treasured nieces and nephews have freely given an abundance of love, assistance and support throughout the years in the absence of far-away sons and daughters and have joyfully extended our immediate family.Born in Chatham, N.B., on Dec 23, 1923, to Marcel (Aucoin) Wedge and Almina Lavoie, he was lovingly raised from a young age by Denise (Memere) and Johnny (Pepere) McGraw following the demise of his mother.

He retired from the Newcastle Pulp and Paper Mill in 1985 after a 37-year career where he worked most of those as a mason. He loved travelling, fishing, music, reading, and people; he was a marvelous raconteur whose jokes, pranks and humorous stories filled our hearts with love and laughter.

Thanks for the memories….
